Point of View

The Alzheimer’s Association Health Systems team is continuing its work to expand access to early detection and quality dementia care across California. During a recent visit to Riverside University Health System (RUHS)—one of two GUIDE-approved sites in the Inland Empire—Archstone Foundation staff saw firsthand how RUHS is making a difference. With multiple touchpoints for patients and caregivers, the RUHS team is already seeing improved care coordination and resource connection.

Dr. Wael Hamade, Chair of Geriatrics, shared how RUHS is implementing the UCLA Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care (ADC) Program—a crucial step made possible with support from health systems directors, including their help guiding and connecting health systems to resources. “Thanks to Judith Martinez, Health Systems Director at the Alzheimer's Association, we were able to learn about the ADC program and get the $50,000 fee waiver. We are very grateful,” he noted. This partnership, along with training from Dementia Care Aware, is ensuring that more older Californians receive the support they need.

Above are pictures from the site visit, highlighting the dedication and commitment of the Department of Geriatrics at RUHS and the impact of the Alzheimer’s Association with support from Archstone Foundation.
