Our Grantmaking Priorities

Mobilizing Communities and Amplifying Older Adult Voices

Older adults’ voices must be centered in addressing challenges to aging well.

Archstone Foundation is committed to partnering with California communities to catalyze equitable change in health and social care systems for older adults who face challenges in accessing quality care, especially those facing multiple barriers. Critical to addressing these challenges is mobilizing communities and amplifying older adult voices.

We believe it is essential that the voices and stories of older adults and their communities are meaningfully represented in efforts to change systems of care. Not only does this ensure they receive the services and care they want and need, it builds leadership, advocacy skills, and civic engagement, increases older adults’ visibility, and strengthens aging equity efforts across the state.

Why This Matters

  • Systems change efforts and solutions are rarely shaped by older adults who are affected.
  • Voices of older adults from marginalized communities are not currently represented in local or statewide decision-making.
  • Digital access barriers prevent meaningful participation in advocacy, benefits navigation, and storytelling.

Therefore, we are prioritizing grantmaking in this aim on projects that focus on:

Narrative Change: Building older adults’ understanding of their political power, directly challenging misinformation, apathy, and division through targeted communications.

Grassroots Organizing: Supporting campaigns and convenings and connecting groups to organizing around issues that will lead to change in health and social care systems.

Digital Inclusion: Facilitating older adults’ widespread use of digital tools to engage in advocacy, access resources, and inform decision-making on an individual and community level.
