Our Grantmaking Priorities
Building the adaptability of organizations serving older adults.
Strengthening long-term sustainability and adaptability of community-based organizations that diverse older adults trust is critical to their success.
Archstone Foundation is committed to partnering with communities—including older adults, families, and community-based organizations supporting older adults—to catalyze equitable change in health and social care systems. Building the resiliency of organizations serving older adults in California is a key component of this work.
We are fortunate in California to have outstanding community-based organizations serving older adults and their families. However, in order for them to be maximally effective in a rapidly evolving environment, they have to be creative, resourceful, and nimble. The Foundation is invested in strengthening the long-term sustainability and adaptability of the small community-based organizations and system of services that diverse older adults trust. We want to help build networks of organizations to identify emerging issues in their communities, partner with older adults to advocate for and create solutions, and support coalitions to serve their communities more efficiently and effectively.
Why This Matters
- Smaller community-based organizations that are trusted in their communities need flexible support to maintain resources and services and adapt to a changing environment.
- These organizations recognize that it is a struggle to respond to policy changes, engage in advocacy efforts, and educate their communities on top of the direct service work for which they are already responsible.
Our grantmaking in this aim will focus on:
Organizational Infrastructure Support: Helping build infrastructure and skills to adapt, grow, and engage communities to participate in systems change efforts that improve advocacy, community engagement, and service delivery.
Coalition Building: Expanding organizations’ expertise by pooling skills and knowledge through convenings and strategic network building.
Flexible Funding for Small Community-Based Organizations: Providing organizations with flexible funds to invest in what they need most to achieve their goals. (Grant opportunities are under development.)
