Point of View

On behalf of the Board and staff, we are pleased to present our annual report for fiscal 2024, Equity in Action, describing our work to improve the health and well-being of older Californians and their caregivers.

Starting with a message from Board Chair Cynthia D. Banks and interim President and CEO John Feather, the report underscores the partnerships we are so grateful for and the processes we are undertaking to refine our strategy in California. It also highlights the roles we are working to play as a connector in the field and a catalyst for meaningful change.

While modest in size, we are intentional about the mark we are striving to make through carefully crafted, systems-level collaborative grantmaking as well as our efforts to advance the state’s Master Plan for Aging – helping bolster the political will and energy in both the public and nonprofit sectors to accomplish its bold goal of creating a California for all ages.

The Foundation awarded 21 new grants totaling $1.6 million, to an array of different types of organizations to expand the integration of health and social services for older Californians. Altogether, this represents $13.7 million in awarded dollars across 55 both new and continuing grants last year, all to organizations doing excellent work to achieve equitable, coordinated care. We are proud of their accomplishments.

A Focus on People and Equity

As the Foundation has continued to refine its strategy to promote justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion, we are leaning into the importance of sharing community stories and continuing to build our relationships with our partners in the community. You will see three highlights of grantee partners illustrating intentional efforts to make connections to underrepresented and marginalized communities.

You will also see our work reflected in the By the Numbers grantmaking data section. It shows 82 percent of new grants in fiscal 2024 focused on equity and reducing disparities, increasing the share among both new and continuing grants to 77 percent. With a thoughtful and committed board and staff, this focus will remain at the forefront of our efforts in the years ahead.

Grateful for Your Partnership

If the stories in the report resonate or generate ideas for new projects, please start a conversation with our team. We love hearing about the work you are doing, the challenges you are seeking to overcome, and the ways we can offer support. Our team at Archstone Foundation is tremendously grateful for the partnership of our grantees and colleagues and the collaboration needed to bring our vision of all older Californians having access to high-quality, equitable care across health and social services. Thank you for your partnership.
