In California, approximately one in ten households experienced food insecurity in 2020 and an estimated 1 in 5 food insecure households include an older adult (aged 65+). Policy changes like expanding CalFresh to SSI/SSP recipients (Cash Out/AB 1811) matters according to the UCSF Center for Vulnerable Populations study. The study showed that the percentage of participants who reported needing more money for food decreased from 85 percent to 64 percent and the percentage of food secure participants increased from almost 17 percent to over 32 percent.
