Archstone Foundation denounces the racism, hatred, and violence present in our nation. In the past few weeks there has been a series of mass shootings that can only be described as among the most evil acts of terrorism carried out by Americans against other Americans. Men who have marinated themselves in hateful, racist, evil fantasies have carefully planned and carried out mass shootings at supermarkets, churches, and subway trains. While they were not equally able to carry out their narcissistic crimes, they have spread fear and made what should be the safe spaces of our communities into battlegrounds.
The mass murder in Buffalo was particularly heinous in that it killed so many and was an expression of the pernicious ideology of white supremacy that has so long haunted our nation. It is a painful reminder of the infection of racism that still lurks in parts of our society and our hearts and must be confronted in every way possible. Even though it is so overused, we offer our thoughts and prayers to the people of Buffalo who have been so traumatically attacked and to all who have been forced to live with fear where there should be peace. We urge government authorities to do everything possible in a free society to prevent these kinds of attacks in the future and to punish those who have committed these crimes.
For our part, we will enact our mission every day and ensure that our grantmaking and our policies are inclusive and promote equity. We are committed to reducing disparities in the health and well-being of older Californians and their caregivers and doing our part in creating an America that values diversity, fosters inclusion, and becomes the just and equitable society for which we long, a place where all can thrive.
