The Gerontological Health Section (GHS) of the American Public Health Association (APHA) and the Archstone Foundation are pleased to join together to recognize innovative programs for older adults. As the population ages, public health programs targeted at older adults gain increased significance. The Award for Excellence in Program Innovation celebrates the creativity of organizations that are pioneering approaches to help older adults remain healthy, functionally independent, and residing in the community. The purpose of this document is to showcase the 24 organizations that have won the award during its first five years, from 1998 - 2003, and to share the Lessons Learned as they apply to public health and aging initiatives.
